 | Structure in Architecture [Japanese translation] by Mario Salvadori Published in 1963 (1968 in Japan)
This is one of those books that I wish I could have read when I was a teenager. Unfortunately I was in my late 20s when I bought this book. Engineering books tend to be very complex and can be intimidating but this book greatly surprised me with its simplicity. Later I read his other book 'Why Buildings Fall Down' in English and to my great surprise I could understand most of the contents, even though English is not my first language. I really admire a person who can explain complex matters in simple, intuitive and clear language. And I really admire what Salvadori has done for disadvantaged children in New York City.
