'LOGS AND LOCOMOTIVES' A King Country Bushman's Story by Roly Holm Our 83 year old neighbor, a retired sailmaker whose father worked in the King Country, lent us this book. We really enjoyed the author's tales of working life from the 1920s to the 1940s in the King Country bush. It was very interesting to read about the timber industry in those days, and also the Great Depression and the Hawkes Bay earthquake from the author's perspective. Moreover, this book pleasantly broadened my view towards timber, New Zealand forests, and locomotives. |
